The Lazy Girl's Guide to Getting Ready in a Hurry

Today was definitely a crazy Monday. I had a really hard time staying asleep last night and in my delirium I set my alarm for 8:30 AM. Why I did this, is not entirely clear to myself, but to my sleep-deprived self it seemed like a good idea at 4 AM. I woke up to my mom knocking on my door (yes I live with my parents, I'm that cool) asking if I was going to work. Oh. Shit. So I bound out of bed at 8:38 and had to be at work by 9 AM. I somehow managed to arrive at 9:07 -I live quite close to where I work luckily. So here are some of my go to tips for when you find yourself running late.
  • It's helpful if you've showered the night before and you really don't have to worry about greasy hair, but if you haven't and have literally no time to shower, the old baby powder trick works in a pinch. Sprinkle some on your hair brush and brush through your roots and going down. Hair spray, because it contains alcohol also works and it's also worth it to invest in  a dry shampoo. Suave makes a super cheap one but just as effective as the Bumble and Bumble ones.
  • There is no need to get fancy with make-up for work. You want to look fresh and pulled together in no more than 5 minutes. Seriously all you need is a tinted moisturizer, concealer for imperfections such as out breaks and under eye circles, a dark brown eye liner (black can be a little harsh for office settings), mascara and a tinted lip balm such as one of the new Revlon Lip Butters.  It's a make-up wham, bam, thank you ma'am.
  • Have a handful of coordinating separates that can work with each other and is office appropriate. After entering the real world after college I resisted buying work clothes. I just find them so stuffy and boring, but it is possible to find cute seperates from Express, The Limited, and a slightly cheaper alternative with Lauren Conrad's Collection for Kohl's. I find it easier to just pull a few pieces that I know go together on the fly, add some stud earrings, a bangle, a scarf and you're good to go.
  • I don't care how rushed you are, you have to eat something. I personally can never skip breakfast because it literally ruins my the rest of my day with the hangries (hungry + angry = hangry). If you seriously cannot stop to quickly make something, grab a Kind Bar or a Kashi bar, both are pretty good for you and get a non-fat latte.

  1. I stopped reading at "tinted moisturizer." This post is clearly not for me.
